Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is amusing – Bollywood Movie Review

Starring: Ranbir Kapoor , Katrina Kaif , Upen Patel ,Govind Namdeo , Darshan Jariwala , Navneet Nishan

Review

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is a mindless romantic comedy which works in most parts.

Prem is the president of a small ‘Happy Club’, which thrives on making others happy. Jenny (Katrina Kaif) is a person who is bought up in an unfavourable family atmosphere. Prem meets Jenny and finds himself head over heals in love with her. He is however, unable to express his love to her. Jenny on the other hand, loves another guy. Unlike it seems, the film is not a conventional love triangle. A comedy of errors ensues.

Direction

Rajkumar Santoshi manages to keep the audiences engaged with his clean humour. The scene in which Prem accidentally knocks on Mithilesh Chaturvedi’s head thinking that it is a door is hilarious. Salman Khan’s cameo is sweet and highly worthy. Having shot in some of the exotic locations, the film earns brownie points for cinematography. Pritam’s soothing music is another highlight. The climax of the film could have been a lot better though.

Script/Story

The film appears to be a standard romantic comedy as it stars but proves to offer a lot more as it progresses. It has the all the ingredients of a complete masala film. It’s one of those mindless comedy in which you don’t have to look for logic. The pace of the film is brisk and keeps you involved.

Performances

Ranbir Kapoor is growing immensely as an actor with each film. He carries off intense as well as comic scenes brilliantly. Watch out for the scene in which he breaks down in front of his friends. Katrina Kaif gives a decent performance. Having said that, she still needs to improve on her dialogue delivery and Hindi. Upen Patel is just about average. Darshan Jariwala is excellent in his comic role.
